The engineering question
How can a methanol production process be modeled, and where might heat integration reduce its need for external heating?
This independent project brought process design and thermodynamic modeling together with a manual assessment of heat recovery.
Approach & methods
- Designed a methanol production process using DWSIM and AutoCAD.
- Performed thermodynamic modeling using Peng–Robinson and NRTL models.
- Applied manual pinch analysis and heat-exchanger network design to evaluate heat recovery and reduced external heating demand.
Scope & findings
The study evaluated opportunities for heat recovery and reduction of external heating requirements. Quantified energy savings and detailed simulation results are not presented in this overview.
